BorgWarner Expands Its Strong Position In Europe with New Facilities At Growing Campus In Poland

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Driven by growing demand for BorgWarner's fuel-efficient technologies in Europe, the company has expanded its campus in the Podkarpackie Science and Technology Park in Rzeszow, Poland, with a new production plant and engineering center. The grand opening took place on September 26, 2013. The 78,500-square-foot (7,300-square-meter) production plant produces advanced chain-driven engine timing systems, including variable cam timing technologies, and provides expanded capacity for transmission components. Covering more than 72,000 square feet (6,700 square meters), the technical center provides capabilities for application engineering and research and development to create new technologies designed to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions while enhancing performance. Production for several major European car manufacturers began recently.

The new plant is BorgWarner's second manufacturing facility in Europe producing advanced chain-driven engine timing systems. The plant also manufactures transmission components, expanding capacity in Europe.

The new technical center provides application engineering and design, simulation, testing and validation as well as material labs and vehicle workshops. By establishing a technical center within its campus in Poland, BorgWarner is broadening its engineering and research and development capabilities within Europe.

Since 2009, BorgWarner has been producing turbochargers for gasoline and diesel engines at its plant in Poland where its central location and excellent transportation infrastructure enable BorgWarner to serve European customers locally. The certified green building was the first production site in Poland to receive an LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate. Special materials used to build the roof and walls significantly reduce the facility's energy consumption. The building offers 23 percent better energy efficiency and uses 32 percent less water than established LEED standards.
