Boston Gets Triple Dose Of World Class Diving Action

Staging the first urban stop in a series that has seen divers plunge into mystic blowholes, sail above blue lagoons, glory dive among beautiful Mediterranean Isles and tackle volcanic shores, the Boston stop set the tone for urban viewing and the massive audience that a sport like cliff diving can reach. In 2013, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series added a second urban stop in Copenhagen, Denmark based on the successes in Boston for the two previous years.

Now it's back to make its mark a third time. This summer, the city that knows and loves its sports will once again witness the beauty of competitive high diving from 90ft when the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns to Boston's most breathtaking waterfront building, the Institute of Contemporary Art, on Sunday, August 25 as a ticketed event.

This isn't the first time Boston has been recognized as a city of firsts. Boston is home to the first public park in America, the first U.S. mail route, the first regularly issued American newspaper, The Boston News-Letter, the first American lighthouse, and the first public library. THE SPLASH HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD
The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is making its way to Boston's Fan Pier after four stops in Europe. On Sunday, August 25, 14 world-class divers will take the plunge for a shot at a prestigious Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series title, competing in two required dives and two optional dives. The five international judges, including four-time Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis, have increased the level of difficulty from previous years by placing more emphasis on the control and aesthetics of the dives, as well as forcing competitors to alternate their dives at the various competitions. The series has already made stops in the historic French isles of La Rochelle, the Danish Capital's Opera House, the volcanic archipelago of the Azores in Portugal and is set to continue on after Boston on September 14 in the United Kingdom, and then proceed on to Brazil and Thailand, where divers will meet crystal blue water and beautiful beaches.

This year's Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013 in Boston will be a ticketed event, free with RSVP through redbull.com/cliffdivingBOS. Red Bull Cliff Diving will take place on August 25 from 2pm to 4:30PM, with gates opening at 1PM. Public ticketed zones will be stationed on Fan Pier, Pier 4, and the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) outdoor plaza. The ICA will extend its hours, remaining open to the public until 7PM that evening. Wiiings are encouraged for both divers and onlookers.
