MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Cancer Resource Foundation hosts the 13th Annual Boston Prostate Walk & 5K to support prostate cancer in Massachusetts.
The event will take place at the Boston College campus at 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill Massachusetts on September 15th, 2013. The event will include a 1-mile walk and a 5K (3.1 mile) race as well as other family fun activities. All proceeds from the event will support prostate cancer education, advocacy and research in Massachusetts. New partners supporting the event in 2013 include, AdMeTech Foundation, the Massachusetts Prostate Cancer Coalition, UsToo International, the Melanoma Foundation of New England and Run Against Cancer Events. Collaboratively, we can shine a light on the need for a greater focus on prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men.
- The American Cancer Society estimates that 5700 men in Massachusetts will hear the words "you have prostate cancer" in 2013. [1]
- Approximately 650 men in Massachusetts will die from prostate cancer in 2013 even though prostate cancer is curable when detected early.
- There has been a seven-fold increase in the diagnosis of prostate cancer among men under age 50 and a three-fold increase in the number of men diagnosed between the ages of 50 and 59.[2]
