"Dave Remer has been dedicated to the Boys & Girls Clubs mission for over 34 years," shared Calvin Lyons, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of King County. "We are excited to leverage Dave's leadership, inspiration and expertise as a marketing expert to help us better articulate our message as we work to raise awareness within our community. It also doesn't hurt that Dave has an amazing rolodex and isn't afraid to put it to good use for a cause that he believes in passionately!"
Dave has previously served on the Board of Directors and is a past Chair. When he joined the board back in 1979, the organization was known as the Boys Clubs of King County. "I am extremely proud to have been part of the board that was instrumental in the long overdue shift to accept girls into the Clubs in 1990," shared Dave Remer. "Boys & Girls Clubs is one of the most inclusive organizations that exist today, serving children of every faith, culture and economic class. In essence, it's a clubhouse where any and every child is welcome."
This value system inspired Dave to author the tagline "A Positive Place for Kids" 34 years ago. This sentiment proved so powerful and uniting that it was adopted and used by the national organization for over three decades.
"I want to help put a membership card in the hand of every kid in King County," says Dave. "I can link the Clubs to more investors to make that possible. Starting by getting them to our KidsBreakfast coming up on April 25!" (For more information on the breakfast, see http://bit.ly/bgckb13.)
How does Dave see the Clubs as staying relevant after 70 years? "Like so many others, I worry about the violence, bullying, drugs, teen pregnancy and other issues that take such a negative toll on the lives of our youth. The Boys & Girls Clubs are grounded in the simple ideals of good citizenship, common decency and respect," shared Dave. "The Clubs and the directors who work in them intervene early in the kids' lives to build and reinforce self-worth and self-esteem. So when kids are confronted with bad choices, they think enough of themselves that they don't make the wrong decision. When kids walk through the doors of our Clubs, they know that there is an entire community supporting them."
Boys & Girls Clubs of King County exists to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. With 14 full-service Clubs and 23 child care program sites, the organization is one of the largest of its kind in the nation, serving nearly 16,000 members annually. Program areas offered to youth build academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. For more information, visit www.positiveplace.org.
