COLUMBIA, Md., April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Investment industry executive Bradford James Manning has been named to the Board of Directors of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the Foundation announced today. The Foundation is the world's leading private funding source for research on inherited retinal disease.
Manning is a founder and principal of Tiger Lily Capital, a private investment firm. At Tiger Lily, Bradford is focused on sourcing early and mid-stage investments in the healthcare industry. Prior to Tiger Lily, Bradford served in various investment roles in private equity and wealth management offices in New York. Manning hopes to leverage his investment experience and relationships in the biotechnology space to further the mission of the Foundation.
"I am honored and excited to serve on the Foundation's Board of Directors, and look forward to collaborating with the fellow directors as we strive to find cures for retinal degenerative diseases. The organization has played an important role in my life. From a young age, the organization's work has inspired and encouraged me, and I am grateful for this opportunity to continue to support such a worthy cause," Manning said.
Manning is legally blind from Stargardt disease, a form of macular degeneration. Stargardt disease impairs the central vision including one's ability to read small text and recognize faces.
Manning is a 2007 graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Commerce. In 2010, he earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College – Columbia University. Manning has been an active member of the Foundation Fighting Blindness for over a decade including being a co-founder of its Young Professionals Initiative in the New York City area.
The Foundation Fighting Blindness was established in 1971. Since that time, it has raised over $650 million to support research to prevent and treat blindness caused by retinal disease. Over 10 million Americans, and millions more worldwide, have vision loss due to retinal degeneration. Through its support of focused and innovative science, the Foundation drives the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome and other inherited retinal diseases.
