A gala was held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on November 19, 2013 to celebrate the achievement of the ten privately held Canadian companies shortlisted for the award.

The Private Business Growth Awards are presented by Grant Thornton in partnership with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to highlight the strategic excellence and noteworthy achievements of Canada's privately held companies, sometimes lost to the spotlight claimed by publicly held companies.
Finalists were chosen based on their achievements in eight key areas, including innovation, product and service development, expansion into new domestic or international markets, development of people and culture, leadership, and improvements in internal processes, stakeholder relations, and financial measures or governance.
