Brazil, Largest Beef Exporter, to Discuss Chain of Production at International Conference of Cattle Feeders
Event will bring together international specialists from 11th to 13th of September in Brazil, the world's largest meat exporter
SAO PAULO, Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 11th to the 13th of September, Brazil will host the fifth edition of Interconf – International Conference of Cattle Feeders (www.interconf.org.br/en). The event will serve as a forum for discussions on the evolution of the meat chain and its impacts on productive processes. The congress is held by the Assocon (National Association of Cattle Feeders) and Canal Rural.
With an estimated herd of more than 200 million head of cattle, Brazil is the world's largest exporter of beef, and has the largest part of its production concentrated in the Central-Western region – where Interconf will take place, in the city of Goiania, capital of the State of Goias. In 2011, approximately 12.1% of the cattle slaughtered (or 3.46 million) were terminated in confinement.
The quality of the Congress technical programming is one of the highlights of Interconf 2012. The event will occur over the course of three days, with two days of plenary sessions and one day in the field. For this edition there has been an overhaul of the issues to be discussed.
This year, Interconf will feature Mailson da Nobrega, Brazil's former Minister of Finance (1987-1990), who will give the opening talk. The event should bring together approximately 1,500 professionals and allow for an exchange of ideas among distinguished representatives of the industrial and retail sectors and the principal cattle farmers of Brazil. The schedule includes a Field Day that will take congress participants to the confinement farm of JBS, the world's largest animal protein processing company, in the municipality of Nazario (GO).
At the first panel of the conference, the subject will be "The cold storage and production industry in Brazil and the world," with the participation of Nancy Morgan (United States) and Claus Deblitz (Germany). The second panel will discuss the other point in the chain, with the subject "The consumer market for meat in Brazil and the World." On the 12th, the third panel will take place, on the subject of "The Producer/Cold Storage Relationship."
The Final Round Table of Interconf 2012 will be moderated by journalist Mauro Zafalon columnist for more than 20 years for Folha de S. Paulo, one of the majors Brazilian newspapers. Taking part in the discussion will be Antonio Jorge Carmadelli, President of ABIEC (Association of Brazilian beef exporters); Eduardo Biagi, President of ABCZ (Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association); and Sussumo Honda, President of ABRAS (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets).
