A new wedding store with a difference has opened its doors in March, Cambridgeshire.
Savvy Cinderella has been trading from a small commercial unit based at the owners home premises for 5 years and has now moved to just over 3,000 square feet of space, and covering 2 floors. It could make it the largest single wedding retailer in the UK.
Sue Lovell, MD and owner of the business, started from very humble beginnings, wishing to bring her 'savvy' culture to the wedding market, she opened her small unit situated at home and started hiring and selling wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, mens formal hire and associated accessories. The key emphasis was to being affordability and remove the sometimes 'stuffy' approach to bridal retail. Savvy Cinderella caters for all sizes whether you are a 6 or a 32 - there is a dress for you.
The new premises are based in a commercial unit as that is way the business started and Sue saw no benefit in changing this successful formula by moving to a High Street location. With 3,000 square feet of space over 2 floors, there is well over 300 wedding dresses to choose from, with designs from Romantica of Devon, Phil Collins Bridal , Opulence and Sue's own 'Something Blue' range.
The business aired on Radio 2, 5 years ago when Sue started the business, with Jeremy Vine covering the subject of 'Are you mad to start a business in a recession'. Sue spoke live on air, and 5 years later has proved you can beat the odds and make a small business thrive.
At the new premises, she is joined by a number of carefully selected suppliers who are displaying permently their offerings, which includes, 2 florists, a wedding cake supplier, wedding photography, marquee supplies, and venue dressing. The first wedding fair was held in November, with one planned every quarter. Further wedding suppliers are in talks to join, so there will be effectively a permanent wedding fair at the premises. Sue commented ' Brides to be, are looking for a complete solution and they can find all their requirements here under one roof, saving time and money having to scour the market for dependable and professional wedding suppliers'.
