Britax Raises the Bar in Rear-Facing Safety with the Anti-Rebound Bar
The Anti-Rebound Bar provides advanced protection for rear-facing children by increasing stability, reducing rotation and lowering risk of injury
FORT MILL, S.C., Aug. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Britax Child Safety, Inc., the leader in child passenger safety technology and manufacturer of premium car seats, recently announced updated versions of its Advocate ClickTight and Boulevard ClickTight convertible car seats will include an Anti-Rebound Bar (ARB) on certain fashions as an added safety feature for rear-facing passengers.
The Anti-Rebound Bar is a padded, steel bar that attaches to the foot-end of the ClickTight convertible car seats to manage rebound or reactive motion in the opposite direction of impact during a collision. In testing for U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS), Britax found the ARB minimizes the risk of injury to rear-facing children by reducing rebound rotation by 40 percent and stabilizes the car seat during frontal, rear-end and side-impact crashes.
Through its own findings that infants and toddlers are five times safer riding rear-facing until they are at least two years old, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advised parents in 2011 to keep their toddlers rear-facing until the age of two, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat. Since then, more and more U.S. states are mandating children stay rear-facing longer, and the ARB's inclusion on select Britax ClickTight convertible car seats will help reduce the risk of injury for those passengers.
In addition to the ARB's benefits, all Britax car seats exclusively feature SafeCell Impact Protection, a system of patented features that work together to lower your child's center of gravity and minimize head excursion, which is the number one cause of death to passengers in a crash. The impact-absorbing base, stabilizing steel frame and five-point harness work together on the Britax ClickTight convertibles with the ARB to reduce the risk of injury and fatality.
"Our number one priority is to save children's lives. We design, build and test our products beyond federal safety standards to ensure the passengers riding in our car seats are the safest they can possibly be during a collision," said Ron Marsilio, vice president of research and development at Britax. "Back in 2003, we were the first U.S. car seat manufacturer to improve rear-facing safety through the use of anti-rebound technology, and adding the Anti-Rebound Bar to select ClickTight convertible car seats will help provide parents what they need to protect their children from harm on the road."
The Anti-Rebound Bar is currently sold separately as an accessory ($39.99) for all ClickTight convertibles, but will also be included with select Advocate ClickTight ARB (MSRP: $469.99) and Boulevard ClickTight ARB (MSRP: $409.99) models in early September 2016 as a premium pairing. These models will be available to purchase in the Circa (Black) fashion on-line and in-store at mass retailers in the U.S. The Brixy independent retailers are offering the exclusive Boulevard ClickTight ARB in the limited edition Solstice (Gray/Black) fashion.
