BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Early detection of breast cancer is key to a better prognosis, but only 25 to 35 percent of women in the southwest Idaho region who need mammograms are getting this life-saving medical screening. Broadview University-Boise is helping raise this number by partnering with Saint Alphonsus' Mobile Heath Screening Coach. The 40-foot long mobile unit will be in the parking lot of Broadview University on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., making it convenient for women in the Boise community to be tested.
"We are very supportive of this cause and are happy to help in any way we can," says Michael McAllister, campus director for Broadview University-Boise. "Last year, cancer was found in a woman who received a mammogram at Broadview University, so we know this is helping to make a difference."
Saint Alphonsus Health System is a four-hospital regional, faith-based Catholic ministry that serves people in Idaho and Oregon. The Mobile Health Screening Coach is a patient-friendly, comfortable, convenient, efficient and technologically-sophisticated vehicle designed to bring services to clinics, businesses, schools and community events where such services are not readily available.
Approximately 20 women will be able to participate in the screenings at Broadview University. Services available include digital mammography and clinical breast exams, and bone density screenings. Women ages 35 and older are encouraged to be screened. Those who are interested should call the campus at 208-577-2900 to schedule an appointment.
