Building Security Specialists formed to strengthen school, retail and corporate security against armed intrusions
Leader's experience includes 9/11 investigation
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A new company has been formed to aid school districts, colleges, retail and corporate facilities to enhance their security precautions against armed intruders. Building Security Specialists offers a variety of services that can reduce the threat and enhance the response by organizations in case of an emergency.
"We all witnessed the heartbreak of recent shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School and at malls and movie theaters, and I am confident that our services are needed," says president Michael Warren. "Our company brings an additional level of expertise in assessing the vulnerability of existing facilities and addressing staff training to respond to a threat."
Warren has more than 35 years of experience in facility and asset protection within the law enforcement, government and private security industry. As a senior security specialist for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Warren took part in the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City in September 2001. Working as a senior security specialist for the U.S. Department of Energy, he conducted force-on-force and tabletop exercises to determine the readiness of protective forces and security systems. He also served as the director of security at Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc., a high security nuclear facility in Tennessee.
"Our specialists understand that public facilities do not have to become armed camps to offer greater security to protect students, teachers, retail patrons and employees," Warren explains. "There are some relatively simple things that can be done to make buildings more secure without severely impacting a feeling of openness and freedom. Likewise, by developing procedures and practicing them with staff members, an organization can be better prepared to react in an emergency."
The company's team of security specialists offers vulnerability assessments of existing facilities, including doors, windows, parking areas and other access points to identify weaknesses. The company provides recommendations on enhancements and procedures for responding to potential threats. "We work in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies and corporate management to establish the best protection that is possible for a facility based on realistic needs, budget and perceived threat," Warren says.
