Business Leadership Forum Draws Attention of Richard Zahn
Business development expert Richard Zahn comments on a recent entrepreneurial roundtable, and on the paramount importance of proper leadership.
LONGWOOD, Fla., Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Richard Zahn is no stranger to working in a leadership role; as a business development expert, he has managed and led highly-motivated teams for numerous companies, mostly in the real estate development vertical. As such, it comes as no surprise that Zahn's attention was drawn to a recent entrepreneurial roundtable—held in Pakistan. According to one report, several of Pakistan's brightest business leaders sat down for a freewheeling discussion on the topic of business leadership, each of them sharing a few of their own thoughts on what makes for a powerful and effective business leader. This report has earned a comment from Richard Zahn, who has weighed in with a new statement to the press.
The overarching theme of the roundtable discussion is simply that, in any business, leadership is important—a point on which each of the assembled businessmen agreed. "The difference between a static and a growing business is in the kind of leader that manages the enterprise," the report says, summarizing the tenor of the discussion group. "Without business leadership, small business ships circle aimlessly and eventually run out of power," it continues, before noting that, according to Pakistan's business elite, the most important quality in a business leader is the willingness to get involved, rather than simply letting the enterprise run on autopilot.
Meanwhile, according to Richard Zahn, the most effective business leader is the one who is willing to be an active listener. "Listening is a lost art, yet one of the most critical skills in business growth is listening to your perspective client—because unless you understand the client's precise goals, there is no way that you can meet or exceed them."
Zahn continues by noting that listening does not just mean paying attention to the needs of a client—but to the needs of the business itself. "Effective listening means being willing to engage with your enterprise and spot its shortcomings and inefficiencies, as well as any problems voiced by employees and team members," Zahn says. "Business growth starts with one simple skill set: listen like your life depends on it."
While Zahn emphasizes the important skill of listening, the business leaders assembled in Pakistan offer alternate viewpoints. One entrepreneur, Almas Hyder—whose business has maintained double-digit growth throughout the past five years—says a good leader is someone who "directs the activities of others for the good of all." Another business owner, Mohsin Syed, claims that leadership is a matter of developing and implementing a vision for the entire company—and working tirelessly to ensure that this vision is understood and shared by all employees.
Still another of Pakistan's business leaders, Syed Nabeel Hashmi, defines an effective business leader as someone with the confidence and persistence needed to pursue a vision without losing sight of the company's ultimate goals.
Richard Zahn is a business leader currently based in Florida, and he is well-known for his leadership role in several successful companies.
