Buy2 Networks Files Lawsuit Against Google Inc. for Infringing its Web Search Patent
Publicly traded in TASE, Buy2 Networks filed the lawsuit against Google last night in the U.S. District Court in Delaware, USA
Lawsuit alleges infringement of Buy2's U.S. Patent No. 8,661,094 directed to free text web searching
TEL AVIV, Israel, June 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Buy2 Networks (TASE: BUY2) today reported to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that last night (U.S. time) it filed a lawsuit in the USA against Google Inc. ("Google") for infringement of its U.S. Patent No. 8,661,094 entitled "WWW Addressing" ("the '094 patent") .
The '094 patent was issued in the USA in 2014 and claims priority to an Israeli patent application filed January 30, 1998. The '094 patent is directed to Internet search methodologies that enable a user to enter a substantially free-form designation of a world-wide-web ("WWW") site and directly display the WWW site without the necessity of using an exact site address (URL) or skimming through search results to find the requested website.
According to the lawsuit, Buy2 alleges that Google is infringing the '094 patent by the provision of its "I'm Feeling Lucky" service, which permits users to navigate directly to relevant websites.
In the Complaint, which was filed with the United States District Court in Delaware, USA (where Google is incorporated), Buy2 Networks moves for a jury trial against Google in which it will seek damages for Google's unauthorized infringement of the '094 patent. Buy2 Networks will also ask the court to enjoin Google from further infringement of the '094 patent.
