Cake Ball Brand Fights Testicular Cancer
Sweet Ballz, Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation Kick-off 20,000 Balls Campaign
DALLAS and GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With the kick-off of Men's Cancer Awareness Month, the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation and new nationally retailed cake ball company, Sweet Ballz, have partnered up in the fight against testicular cancer. The program, aptly named "20,000 Balls," is aimed at reaching and educating as many men as possible about testicular cancer throughout the month of June.
"Testicular cancer is the leading cancer in men aged 15-35, but when detected early, the survival rate is astounding…over 95%," said Kim Jones, founder of the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation. "Our goal in launching this partnership with Sweet Ballz is not only to raise awareness, but to get people comfortable with talking about the disease and the need for early detection."
Throughout the month of June, for every person that purchases a package of Sweet Ballz at his or her local 7-Eleven and posts it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #20kBallz, Sweet Ballz will donate $1 to the TCAF. Every dollar raised will allow the TCAF to challenge another young man to take the early detection challenge (examining yourself for symptoms at least once a month).
This year alone, nearly 10,000 young men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer. Therefore, the effort to reach and potentially save 10,000 men (20,000 balls) became a measurable way for the TCAF and Sweet Ballz to provide monetary funds, as well as increase awareness of the cause.
A package of four Sweet Ballz retails at 7-Eleven for $1.99-2.29 per box, depending on location. More than 4,200 stores are currently carrying the product, making it easy for anyone across the country to get involved in the campaign this month.
"Partnering up with the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation just seemed to be a perfect fit from the beginning," said James McDonald, co-founder of Sweet Ballz. "Being a brand-new, fun-natured product, we couldn't be more excited about supporting the great work that the TCAF is doing."
The simple and easy-to-do testicular self-exam is just four simple steps that, when done once-a-month, can save a life. No special tools or assistance is needed, but if any irregularities are detected, it is important to see a physician immediately. Please visit the TCAF's website for detailed information on conducting a self-exam.
About the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation
The TCAF was founded with the mission of educating the general public on the importance of early detection, and supporting those who are affected by testicular cancer. Every hour a male is diagnosed with testicular cancer and every day a life is lost due to lack of awareness. The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation was formed in October of 2009 by Kim Jones, a mother dedicated to fighting the disease that nearly took the life of her own son. They encourage monthly testicular self-exams just as women are taught for detecting breast cancer. For more information on the TCAF, please visit: http://testicularcancerawarenessfoundation.org
