California Author And His 15 Year Old Son Will Walk Across United States Raising Awareness For Mental Illness
FRESNO, Calif., April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Team Fighting Chance will be walking across this great country of ours to raise awareness for untreated and undiagnosed mental illness and disorders. We hope to gain support in building the first statewide, and eventually nationwide, emergency mental health crisis help line. Modeled after 911, the helpline will provide access and support to those in need of immediate mental crisis help. From families affected by loved ones in mental breakdown to those individuals afflicted, we aim to stop a crisis before it becomes deadly by providing a stepping-stone to the road of mental stability.
Mr. Upchurch and his son Tyler will begin their journey Sunday, June 12, 2016, in San Francisco CA, and arrive in Washington D.C. on Sept. 25th.
We ask for support and help along the way. Please join us as we pass through your City, Town and Neighborhood. Walk and talk with us as much or as little as you like. Share with us your experiences, your strengths and your hopes for a healthy America.
Mr. Upchurch is a published author and wrote a memoir about growing up with mentally ill and chemically addicted parents called "Where The Heart Lies". Mental illness affects more than the afflicted, it affects the families, friends, co-workers and society in a very insidious way. Team Fighting Chance's goal is to eliminate barriers of pain and silence with communication and knowledge. We hope to provide help and care for people in crisis before that crisis becomes deadly.
