California Community Foundation Awards $4.4 Million to Advance Greater Equity and Opportunity Across L.A. County

LOS ANGELES, April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The California Community Foundation (CCF) has awarded $4,422,880 in the first quarter of 2015 to Los Angeles County nonprofit organizations to address the wide-ranging needs of our region. CCF supports this critical work in the community through discretionary funds entrusted to the foundation by generations of donors.

An additional $1,025,000 has been awarded to 10 nonprofit organizations working with undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles County to implement President Obama's November 2014 executive action on immigration. This first phase of grants will support infrastructure, outreach, community education and legal services.

"With more immigrants eligible for administrative relief in Los Angeles County than any other place in America, our region must become a model for the nation in advancing inclusion and harnessing the economic power of our immigrant community," said CCF President and CEO Antonia Hernández. "While not comprehensive reform, this is a unique opportunity to impact the lives of so many. We're proud to collaborate with our donors and grantee partners who are working toward a better future for all Angelenos."

This quarter, CCF announces 42 additional grants across the foundation's diverse program areas, including arts, education, health care, housing and economic development and nonprofit sustainability.

Grants were also awarded in support of key CCF initiatives:

El Monte Community Building Initiative aims to ensure that children and youth in El Monte grow up healthier and better prepared for school, college and a career.
More and Better Learning Time, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, seeks to provide public schools in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty with more after-school, out-of-school and anytime/anywhere learning opportunities.
Immigrant Integration Initiative focuses on increasing the civic participation of immigrants as a way to enhance the region's policies toward immigrants and foster a vibrant and engaged community.
Los Angeles Scholars Investment Fund offers scholarships and effective college preparation and completion services to increase the number of low-income students that graduate with post-secondary degrees.
