California Ripe Olives Make A Splash With New Cocktail Recipes

FRESNO, Calif., May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- California Ripe Olives have always been a tasty addition to a variety of dishes and now they've proved their rightful place in craft cocktails. Often thought of as solely a garnish, California Ripe Olives take center stage in new custom cocktail recipes developed by the California Olive Committee.

The California Ripe Olive industry teamed up with mixologists/bloggers Jordan Catapano and Jocelyn Dunn Muhlbach of This Girl Walks into a Bar to develop the four signature cocktails that pay homage to the rich and unique history of the California Ripe Olive industry.

"With the trend of craft cocktails continuing to gain popularity, we were excited to explore innovative and unique ways California Ripe Olives fit into the movement," said Denise Junqueiro, Director of Programs and Services, California Olive Committee. "The result: four fabulous, on-trend cocktail recipes that showcase the versatility and flavor of California Ripe Olives. Plus, who knew that the olive brine would be such a delicious addition as well."  

Warmer weather means many are turning to a refreshing sipper, and with that in mind, Jordan and Jocelyn looked to create innovative, thirst-quenching cocktails perfect for happy hour. Beer cocktails continue to rise in popularity and the Back Porch Beer Cocktail is a fusion of flavors that combines beer, tequila, olive brine and pico de gallo, for an added kick. While fruit infusions have been popular the past few years, a savory, herbal infusion is what makes the Sunshine Infusion Cocktail a stand out. Add in the cucumber-wrapped olive stuffed with goat cheese, and it's a cocktail and snack all in one.

Two classic cocktails are spruced up thanks to California Ripe Olives. Bloody Mary fans will like the Cali Brunch Cocktail while martini fans will enjoy Freda's Martini, a California Ripe Olive riff on the classic martini, named after Freda Ehmann, the 19^th century housewife responsible for creating the California Ripe Olive.

Of course, it's important to have some nibbles to enjoy with cocktails and the California Ripe Olive industry has hundreds of recipes to share on its website www.calolive.org.
