Susi says, "There is one BIG reason why I started the Calm.Steady.Strongtm Program. Over my 20 years of teaching people recovering from cancer, I recognized that there are many people who don't want to come to group yoga classes, and yet they are still searching for ways to get well." Then, in 2011 someone in her family was diagnosed with cancer, and had the exact same experience - they wanted to keep their condition private and they were still searching for how to get well and manage the process.
So, based on a yoga program she created for and was studied at the University of Calgary from 2002-2009, Susi created the 7 week online Calm.Steady.Strongtm program which begins April 25. 25% of proceeds will be donated to charities supporting people who are going through cancer treatment.
Too often students have said some version of the following, "When treatment was over, the doctor told me to go and live life, and I really wasn't sure what to do . . . Or, my family and friends are happy for me, why am I not as happy as they are . . . Or, I was fighting this for months. . . now what?" The classes she teaches are an answer to "now what? Where do I go from here?" It is an opportunity to move beyond surviving - to a place that is Calm.Steady.Strongtm.
Calm.Steady.Strongtm is based on the yoga for cancer survivors protocol that Susi created for the University of Calgary in 2001. U of C studied the protocol between 2002-2009 and results have shown improvements in fitness, quality of life, fatigue, ability to sleep, mood and a reduction of side and/or latent effects of chemotherapy and radiation. From 2008-2011, Susi trained over 300 yoga teachers from Canada, the US, and as far abroad as the Channel Islands, Amsterdam, Riyadh, and Australia to use the protocol.
The 3rd version of Calm,Steady.Strongtm online program will be available April 25, 2016 and runs for 7 weeks. It includes over 15 hours of instruction on how to improve range of motion and strength, how to improve breathing, reduce fatigue, and regain an inner sense of quiet. All classes are online and Susi answers questions in 3 webinars that occur throughout the 7 weeks. Susi is also bringing in experts in oncology and recovery to provide down-to-earth and up to date information on becoming well again.
