"Everyone talks about doing something 'someday.' 'Someday I'm going to do this or someday I'm going to do that,'" Koop says. "That today is 'someday.' Don't wait, because no one knows when their time is up. If there is something you need to do, do it now. If there is someone in your life that you need to tell that you love them, do it now."
Koop is recovering from Osteo Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer growing on his spine and all of the treatments involved with battling the cancer. He was a very successful serial entrepreneur who has ventured into many different industries including: prepaid legal plans, vineyards and Christmas trees.
His book stresses several important points:
- Too many people spend their time making a living but rarely live life to the fullest.
- The only things in life that really matter are our personal relationships - our family and our friends.
- The need to maintain a positive outlook. "When I was going for treatments, the people who were positive and had a reason to live, survived. Most people who had a negative attitude and nothing to live for, didn't," he said.
The book contains information on how to deal with friends and family members who have cancer, some things to do and say and a few things you might avoid.
"People who visited me during the peak of my battle all had the same look on their face. That look that says I have no idea what to do," reports Koop. "They were scared to death to say the wrong thing. That was one of the struggles I saw on everyone's face."
The book's appeal is not limited to cancer patients though. It is written in such a way that it can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to get more out of life or just laugh at many of Koop's adventures growing up.
Koop started The Someday Group with his wife Carrie Koop. "We are here to help people who want more. Not just more money, but more of everything that life has to offer. More success in your work, more understanding in your relationships with people. More happiness and fulfillment in love," he said. "Life is precious, don't ever look back and say I wish I would have done this or I wish I had done that."
