Car Insurance in Florida
Florida is a no-fault insurance state, so drivers are required to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP). Each party in an accident is responsible for paying for their own injury costs, regardless of who was at fault. PIP insurance of $10,000 fulfills the state requirements.
Drivers must also carry a minimum of $10,000 in property damage liability. The responsible party must cover the property damage costs after causing an accident.
Although the state requires only $10,000, Melanie Musson, a nationally recognized car insurance expert with FreeAdvice.com, explains, "Crashes often cause damages that far exceed $10,000 to repair. For better protection, drivers should consider property damage liability limits of $70,000 to $100,000."
Finding Lower Rates Following an Accident
One of the best ways to find lower rates after an accident is to sign up for the insurance provider's monitoring program. Progressive Snapshot is one of the more familiar programs, but many top insurers offer similar programs.
Depending on the circumstances of the accident, some drivers may be eligible for lower rates if they complete a safe driving course.
Discounts for paperless billing, vehicle safety features, being a good student, and many others are additional ways to save. Drivers with full coverage insurance can get lower premiums by increasing their deductible.
One of the easiest ways to find lower car insurance premiums is to compare quotes and switch to a company that offers lower rates.
