Car Show to Benefit Western Massachusetts Tornado Victims
Benefit to be Held on Blu Homes Factory Property; Community Gathering Around Cause
EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass., July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 300 vehicles will gather on the Blu Homes and Lenox Tools properties in East Longmeadow on Saturday for a car show to benefit those affected by the recent tornadoes in Western Massachusetts. The Springfield area saw the destruction or damage of hundreds of homes and businesses in the recent disaster.
After recently celebrating its factory's one year anniversary in East Longmeadow, Blu Homes continues to deeply value its role in this local community. "These tornadoes hit home for us," said Maura McCarthy, co-founder and VP of sales & marketing for Blu. "Every time we design a home, we think about the strongest ways to build a home – we think about its structure. But, we also think about the family within. Our own factory lost power for an extended period and several of our factory workers' homes were affected. One employee was devastated by the total loss of a home and several others experienced significant damage." McCarthy noted that Blu and its employees have contributed toward helping affected workers get back on their feet. "The people of this area have come together to support one another and rebuild. This is an inspiring way that the community is pulling together."
The show will take place on Saturday, July 9, and gates will open at 9 a.m. Suggested donations are $10 per car, $5 per person, and $10 per family. Blu Homes is making free parking available on its lot across from the Lenox Tools property where the show cars will be stationed. More info can be found at the event's website, http://www.changethewind.net/index.html.
"Blu Homes was part of the inspiration to get this show going, with its offer of support. This community has done such an incredible job of coming forward to rebuild together," said Jeffrey DeMarey, president of Stonewall Insurance and the event's founder and organizer. "We are looking forward to making a significant contribution towards recovery for the victims of the tornadoes."
