Caravans have been identified as a lifestyle that appeals to Britons of all ages, from young adults to retirees.

Statistics released by leading caravan sales and holiday park operator Park Resorts show exactly who in the UK is buying new and used caravans. The figures reveal that buying caravans for sale are a hit with people from the age of 20 all the way through to 70 and older.

Caravanning may have once upon a time had an image that it was predominantly for the grey-haired generation, but nothing could be further from the truth in the modern world. In fact, young parents will see caravans for sale as a chance to secure numerous holidays in a favourable location for many years to come, meaning they do not have to regularly splash out on foreign breaks for their little ones.

The statistics, which are for the period to September 2012, show 30 per cent of caravans are sold to people aged over 60. This means the majority are being snapped up by young, trendy and modern couples and families who dream of having their own personal base in one of the UK's premier holiday destinations.

Some 15 percent of sales were made to adults aged between 31 and 40, while 23 per cent of the business' transactions featured buyers from 41 to 50. More than five per cent of all sales involved people younger than 30. Investing in a caravan earlier in life can be a shrewd move, as it gives people several decades to enjoy their purchase.

It is becoming more and more fashionable to treat kids to a holiday in the UK, so owning a caravan seems like the logical step for many to take. In the year to date figures, it was revealed that 36.1 per cent of older owners took their grandchildren under the age of five on such a trip, while 17 per cent used their caravan as a base for a jaunt with their offspring aged between six and 11.
