WALTHAM, Mass., June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Care.com (NYSE: CRCM), the world's largest online care destination for finding and managing family care, today announced that Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Founder, Chairman and CEO, will participate in The White House Summit on Working Families, to be held today at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.
Co-hosted by the Center for American Progress and the U.S. Department of Labor, the Summit will explore the challenges facing working families and focus on such critical issues as workplace flexibility, equal pay, workplace discrimination, worker retention and promotion, and childcare/early childhood education.
President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden will all be present to make remarks throughout the day, joining business leaders, economists, state and local elected officials, members of Congress, advocates, and labor and opinion leaders to discuss this critically important topic.
Ms. Marcelo will be a panelist during the Summit's Luncheon Plenary Discussion, "A 21st Century Economy that Works for Business and Workers," beginning at 12:40 p.m. which will explore the business and economic case for more family-supportive workplace policies such as workplace flexibility and paid leave policies. President Obama will deliver his Keynote Address immediately following the Luncheon Plenary and then will host a CEO Roundtable, in which Ms. Marcelo will also participate.
"It is an enormous honor to represent Care.com and our millions of member families and caregivers at the White House Summit on Working Families," said Ms. Marcelo. "We're also incredibly proud of the nearly 150 organizations representing more than 600,000 employees who support the needs of working families as part of our Workplace Solutions program. Having a strong care infrastructure in place empowers families and fuels business growth. The fact that the White House, the Center for American Progress and the U.S. Department of Labor are bringing this conversation front and center, shows just how critical this topic is to the American economy."
All three Plenary panels being conducted during the Summit will be streamed live at WorkingFamiliesSummit.org. On Wednesday, June 25th beginning at 12:00 p.m., Care.com will host a Google+ Hangout to further provide families and employers a platform to educate themselves on the tools and resources available to help integrate the needs of work and life.
