Carl Cannon Named Washington Editor of RealClearPolitics
CHICAGO, Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RealClearPolitics (RCP) announced today that award-winning journalist Carl M. Cannon is joining the company as its Washington Editor. Mr. Cannon will be heading up RCP's exclusive coverage of the White House, Congress, and the 2012 election, which will include an expanded staff of reporters and a new section of the web site.
"Carl is not only a journalist of immense talent and experience, but at a time of increasing polarization in politics—and coverage of politics—he's known to be scrupulously even-handed," said RealClearPolitics Executive Editor Tom Bevan. "As we continue to expand our reporting staff, Carl will be a tremendous asset in taking RCP's coverage of politics and elections to a new level."
Mr. Cannon has covered every presidential campaign and major political convention since 1984 and was honored for his White House coverage in 1999 by winning the prestigious Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting of the Presidency. In 2006, Mr. Cannon received the other top honor on the White House beat, the Aldo Beckman award for "excellence in presidential news coverage."
He is a past president of the White House Correspondents' Association, the author or co-author of four books, and a previous fellow-in-residence at Harvard's Institute of Politics, Stanford's Hoover Institution, and the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. For the past two years, Mr. Cannon has been executive editor of Politics Daily.
"I'm thrilled to be joining an organization with such a proven passion for producing first class coverage of politics and elections," Mr. Cannon said. "We are excited about leaving our mark on the 2012 election – and beyond."
