Carnegie Learning® Analytic Geometry and Advanced Algebra Recommended by Georgia State Board of Education

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnegie Learning Inc., publisher of K-12 mathematics curricula and professional development services, announced today that the Georgia State Board of Education has reviewed and recommended two newly developed high school programs aligned to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS): Carnegie Learning CCGPS Analytic Geometry and CCGPS Advanced Algebra.

The Georgia State Board of Education approved these curricula in a review intended to address the need for instructional materials to support new more rigorous expectations for student performance and provide educators with a clear, focused set of expectations for assessing student progress. Curricula approved by the Georgia Department of Education in this adoption cycle may be purchased with state education funds through June 30, 2019.

Carnegie Learning CCGPS Analytic Geometry and CCGPS Advanced Algebra offer a unique blend of textbook and Cognitive Tutor^® software instruction to deliver highly personalized mathematics learning for students of varying skill levels. The curricula are written specifically to meet the requirements of the CCGPS and to support mathematics instructors in the transition to the new common core standards.

Carnegie Learning Professional Development servces workshops will support implementation of these programs and prepare Georgia teachers for classroom instruction to deepen student content knowledge, promote problem-solving, and encourage students to reflect on their thinking and consolidate new mathematical ideas.                                    

In the previous 2012 curriculum and instruction review process, the Georgia Department of Education recommended Carnegie Learning Math Series textbooks and MATHia^®  software for grades 6-8,  and Coordinate Algebra textbooks and software for adoption through 2019. Carnegie Learning adopted curricula are currently used in over 40 Georgia districts.  

Carnegie Learning math programs are based on more than 20 years of research and third-party evaluations. Recently completed research funded by the U.S. Department of Education and independently conducted by the RAND Corporation revealed a statistically significant impact of eight percentile points for students who used Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor® Algebra I.  The results are significant because of a combination of both the size of the research and the substantial change in student outcomes. Over 17,000 students participated in 147 schools across seven states for two years.

Carnegie Learning curricula are currently adopted in fifteen of twenty curricula adoption states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.
