After reading an article in the New York Times about PENCIL's commitment to improving education for NYC students, Jodi Carter, CPA took action. Carter reached out to PENCIL to collaborate on the creation of a program focused on behavioral finance, financial literacy, and strategies for sound financial decision-making.
PENCIL paired Carter with Eximius College Preparatory Academy in the Bronx, a member of College for Every Student (CFES), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping underserved students prepare for, gain access to, and succeed in college. The Eximius administration recognizes the value of connecting their students with business professionals. Principal Jonathan P. Daly said, "As we work to prepare our scholars to be college and career ready, every exposure that they have to professionals working in the real world helps the goal become more of a reality."
Carter has always had a passion for teaching accounting and finance. She often advises her millennial generation clients on key topics such as lifestyle planning, career aspirations and home ownership. She is thrilled to have an opportunity to bring similar guidance to high school students.
