LOS ANGELES, March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
15th Annual Susan G. Komen LA County Race for the Cure®
This year's Race is expected to raise $1.5 million. The funds will be used to provide both the medically underserved and uninsured populations in Los Angeles County with screening, diagnostic tests and treatments for breast cancer. This flagship fundraising event will also celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease. The Los Angeles County Affiliate (www.komenlacounty.org) is the only breast cancer organization where 75% of funds raised stays in the local community, going directly to local services and resources for Los Angeles County residents through community grants.
More than 15,000 Komen supporters are expected to attend this year's Race. In addition, several notable celebrities including Kelly Hu, (Hawaii 5-0, X MEN 2), Vanessa Williams (Melrose Place), Sara Ramirez (Grey's Anatomy), Kelly Price (Grammy nominated recording artist), Mekenna Melvin (Chuck), Yara Martinez (Southland), Melinda Clarke (Nikita) and many more will walk the pink carpet and offer interviews about their connection to breast cancer and why it is a cause that they embrace.
Australian rock band Juke Kartel will perform during the Opening Ceremony. The group is donating partial proceeds from its single "Brightest Star" to benefit the Los Angeles County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Through events like the Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $2 billion has been invested to fulfill that promise, making Komen for the Cure the world's largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to fighting breast cancer.
