Celebrity Roses Will Dazzle Visitors in Oakland at the East Bay Rose Society's 63rd Annual Spring Rose Show May 16
OAKLAND, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Oakland will be bursting with beautiful roses from the gardens of East Bay Rose Society members, along with donations from the city's Morcom Rose Garden, at a free show at the city's Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue, on May 16 from 1-5 p.m.
Welcome spring in a delightful way! Come walk amid rooms full of sumptuous roses.
"Celebrity Roses" is the theme for the show. Come find your favorite celeb's namesake rose, whether it's named after an artist, actor, musician, queen, or president. "The show will be filled with wonderful blooms and a hypnotizing fragrance," says Thomas Bolden, president of the EBRS.
Local merchants, restaurants, and nurseries have donated gift certificates and new merchandise for a raffle. A Rose Cafe will be available for snacks and light lunches. There will be a new and used sale table. Roses and rose plants will be offered at bargain prices.
"Check out The Pride Of Oakland rose," suggests Gene Albert, EBRS vice president. Organizers hope Oakland's beautiful namesake and other beautiful roses on display will entice visitors to join the EBRS, which is a multicultural group that welcomes new members.
Speaking of first-timers, novices are encouraged to enter the show. And some of the Bay Area's most talented horticulturists will be on hand, offering the best of their spring roses. "See if you have what it takes to win," says EBRS member Sonia Glinternick.
Do you have any thorny gardening questions? Bring them to be answered by consulting rosarians at the event.
"It's a truly wonderful experience not to be missed," says past EBRS president Phillis May. "Roses will be for sale during and after the show. Take something incredibly beautiful home with you!"
"Come smell the roses and feel the excitement," agrees show coordinator James Donoso.
