The North Thurston Public School district is subject to Washington state's Public Disclosure Act, which requires public sector agencies to retain public records (including electronic communications, such as text or chat messages) and produce them for public disclosure, investigations, e-discovery and more. Nearly all U.S. states have open records laws, similar to the Federal government's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
