CFA Society Portland to Honor Long-Time Board Member
Will Rename Annual Program the Carl Burgdorfer Scholarship Program
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The CFA Society Portland is pleased to announce that it will shortly rename its annual scholarship program the Carl Burgdorfer Scholarship Program in honor of its past President and long-time dedicated member of the Society's Board of Directors, Carl Burgdorfer, CFA.
This year the scholarship program will award a total of $12,000 to six students, one from each of six area colleges that the Society works with so that students can further their career entrée into the world of finance. These $2,000 individual scholarships will be formally awarded in early 2017. Scholarships are funded by the Society's investment account.
"I am incredibly flattered to have this worthy annual scholarship program named in my honor," said Carl Burgdorfer who maintains close relationships with area colleges and universities on behalf of the CFA Society Portland. "To me, these scholarships represent a way to give back and to help graduates who seek to work in the finance and investment industry realize the array of career opportunities that exist through their pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst certification program."
Burgdorfer, who currently works as Senior Vice President in the US Bank Private Client Group, as well as an adjunct professor at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon, serves as the Society's University Liaison and has been an active member of the CFA Society Portland's Board of Directors for over a decade. For the past six years he has also spearheaded the Society's involvement with the annual CFA Institute's Research Challenge in which teams of college students in the Oregon and Southwest Washington State region are given a company to fully research and then must present their research to a panel of judges.
"Carl has been a vital member of our Society and has been incredibly instrumental as our University Liaison in encouraging graduating college students to prepare for a successful career," said Allen Bond, CFA, current President of the CFA Society Portland in announcing the newly dubbed Carl Burgdorfer Scholarship Program. "We are so fortunate to have Carl paving the way for our next generation of investment industry participants to start and grow their chosen careers."
