Chairman Dr. Frank Alexander Welcomes University of Texas System Chancellor, Executive Council to UT Arlington
Visit Will Showcase Research and Faculty that Underscore Goal of Tier One Status
ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Frank Alexander, DDS, PA, the recently-appointed Chair of the University of Texas Chancellor's Committee for the 2014-15 academic year, will welcome his colleagues on the University of Texas Chancellor's Council Executive Committee on their trip to the UT Arlington campus for their winter Business Meeting, to be held on January 22-23.
"I was greatly honored to be named Chairman of the Chancellor's Committee, and I look forward to working with our new Chancellor William McRaven as he takes over the leadership of the UT System," said Dr. Alexander. "This will be the Chancellor's first official visit to UT Arlington, and we are eager to show him and the rest of the council the exciting innovations in research that are happening here," he added.
Examples of current research at UT Arlington include micro-windmills and their potential for future power generation on cell phones and homes; bone bonding, nano-particle potential use in cancer therapy; methods to cool electrons that would allow electronic devices to use less energy, and more.
"North Texas and the citizens of Texas need more tier-one research universities and all of the economic, societal and educational benefits they bring to their regions, including a well-educated work force which will enable Texas and the nation to compete globally in engineering, technology, and health care," Alexander said.
UT Arlington is one of seven emerging research universities in Texas attempting to qualify for tier-one status under Proposition 4, the 2009 constitutional amendment that established the National Research University Fund (NRUF).
The Chancellor's Council Executive Committee is the core leadership group for the Chancellor. The group convenes several times annually and engages in dialogue with the Chancellor, UT System executive officers, UT presidents and faculty regarding special initiatives and issues of importance to higher education in Texas. The winter meeting will feature speakers and breakout sessions on technology, creativity, sustainable engineering, breakthrough innovations, big data, aviation, and campus excursions.
