Champion Closes the Window on Hunger
Home Improvement Company Launches a Summer Campaign To Shed the Light On Hunger and Support 80 Local Food Banks
CINCINNATI, June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As the school year comes to an end, most children are looking forward to summer fun and family vacations. But for far too many children the summer also means they will be missing the one regular meal they receive through their school lunch program. With nearly 1 in 4 American children now impacted by food insecurity (according to Feeding America), Champion Window decided it was time to do something and created "Close the Window on Hunger". This new campaign provides Champion's 80 local showrooms and their customers a chance to help fight hunger in their own communities. Beginning June 1, Champion will provide a local food bank with a donation of 50 pounds of food per appointment scheduled, and an additional 100 pounds of food for every project order placed by August 31.
"While our company's national goal is to provide a minimum of 2.6 million pounds of food to those in need, we recognize the importance of being a part of the communities we service and have designed this program to give back on a local level," said Denny Manes, CEO of Champion Window. "As such, working with the local food banks is critical to this effort and we applaud each of the 80 food banks for the tireless work they do to help fight hunger in their communities."
Champion's national spokesperson, Jason Cameron, Host of DIY's "Man Caves" stars in Champion's "Close the Window on Hunger" commercials, which shed light on hunger in America and the need for donations over the summer, when support for food banks typically declines.
"For many of the nations neediest children, a school lunch plan is the only time they can count on regular meals," said Jason Cameron. "That's why I am happy to work with Champion to launch the 'Close The Window On Hunger' campaign and help fill the need for additional food donations during the summer months when school is out."
