Change Your Shoes, Change the World: Platforms for Change Creates Innovative Shoe System with Interchangeable Tops
Former Technology Professional and Shoe Lover Announces Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Clever, Comfortable, Space-saving, USA-Made Shoe Making System, Built to Last, with Interchangeable Tops that Result in 90% Less Environmental Impact.
PORTLAND, Ore., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A former technology professional and self-described shoe fanatic is launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise final funding for Platforms for Change, an environmentally-friendly platform shoe system that offers comfort, quality, and style, with a unique twist -- the tops are interchangeable with many others she designs and sells, and individuals and companies are free to make their own tops as well. This novel approach to shoe design also allows for significant space savings -- one platform can be paired with any interchangeable top to create a unique shoe, and 20 tops require about the same space as one pair of shoes. That's 20 pair in the space of 2.
With Platforms for Change, Founder Pamela Cosper is setting out to be part of the global FASHION REVOLUTION by challenging the shoe industry to rethink how shoes are made. By offering ergonomic platforms and interchangeable shoe tops (that lay flat when they're not being worn), the Platforms for Change system requires fewer materials, less labor and less space, making them far more eco-friendly than traditional shoes.
Platforms for Change is the result of Cosper's struggle to find a way to indulge her love of shoes, without having to overstuff her closet or her suitcase. According to Cosper, "I love shoes, but I always feel guilty about buying them. Most shoes are made with cheap materials that don't last, and they take up so much room when you store them. It's also difficult to find a pair that are beautiful, high quality, ethically-made, AND comfortable."
To solve this problem, Cosper began working in 2013 on a product that would later become the Platforms for Change shoemaking system. Using a patent-pending border of quick-release rivets around each shoe, wearers can easily detach and reattach different leather or vegan shoe tops to create a new style for any occasion.
"Years of research, development, and testing have resulted in Platforms for Change. The shoes are sexy and comfortable. Best of all, the modular system allows me to travel with the equivalent of 20 pairs of shoes in a small, sleek portfolio. Platforms for Change results in more storage space and shoe options, with less waste and environmental impact," says Cosper.
Eco-friendly style, comfort, and unique interchangeability are not the only things that Cosper is proud to offer with Platforms for Change. According to Cosper, "We want to make sure human rights are respected and that the environment isn't being abused, so all our shoes are responsibly made in America, with American materials, providing higher quality shoes that support local jobs -- and they're healthier for our feet!"
Cosper also believes in helping others enter the market. "In my former technology life, 'open-source' described software code anyone could use and change to develop new programs quickly and inexpensively. I want to bring that concept to shoemaking and inspire the traditional shoe industry to innovate faster, and allow for collaboration among a larger audience of co-designers. All of our shoe tops are open-source, so people can make their own at home, or even sell their own unique line of tops based on the Platforms for Change system, without needing our permission or paying us anything. We want to empower anyone, from the DIY Diva at home, to an entrepreneurial craftsperson, to make shoes that look and feel amazing."
The Platforms for Change Kickstarter campaign will launch on June 8th at 9 a.m. Pacific Time, and will run for 34 days. Early backers will receive 60% off the retail price for a Platforms for Change Shoe System that includes their choice of multiple pairs of interchangeable tops to start their collection.
