Charities Across America Compete for $30,000 in One-Day Online Fundraising Contest
Razoo's "Twive and Receive" Online Giving Day Helps Nonprofits Embrace Social Media Tools like Twitter and Facebook
WASHINGTON, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 14, social media activists in cities across the country will go head-to-head to see who can generate the most donations for their favorite local nonprofit. They will be vying for a share of $30,000 in additional donations, while ultimately demonstrating the power of social media fundraising techniques. The competition, Twive and Receive (TwiveAndReceive.org), pronounced like "Give and Receive," was created by Razoo, a social fundraising platform for individuals and nonprofits.
"We saw an opportunity to help local communities across the country that may not otherwise have the chance to fundraise for prize money like this," said Razoo CEO Lesley Mansford. "This event also allows us to communicate the importance of social media for nonprofit fundraising. A recent study we released in partnership with the Case Foundation and the Razoo Foundation showed that one-day, social media-based fundraising programs like Twive and Receive not only contribute to significant funds raised, but can also equip nonprofits with long-term online skills and a broader network of supporters."
In cities across the country, bloggers and other social media influencers have each picked one local cause to support. To help cities unite behind a single organization, only one nonprofit per city will participate. The 24-hour contest will launch on June 14th at midnight Pacific Time (3:00 AM ET), at which point charities will compete to see who can raise the most on TwiveAndReceive.org in one day. Razoo will award the top three participating charities that raise the most $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 to first, second and third place respectively.
"Twive & Receive just isn't about fundraising. It's about community building and giving nonprofits the tools they need to succeed. In this contest, everyone wins," said Joe Waters of Selfishgiving.org, an influential blog on cause marketing and social giving. Waters is teaming up with fellow social media expert John Haydon to rally the Boston community around Twive and Receive.
To get involved, nonprofits and social media activists can apply to participate at TwiveAndReceive.org. Between now and the fundraising date, participants, selected nonprofits, and supporters can help rally support by sharing information via Twitter, Facebook, email, and other social channels. In participating cities, local events will be held to support the nonprofits competing for funds.
