Charles Brandes Receives 2015 Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession from Bucknell University
LEWISBURG, Pa., June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bucknell University Alumni Association recently presented Charles Brandes with a lifetime achievement award in the category of "Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession," during the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1965.
The award is bestowed to an alumnus or alumna whose professional accomplishments and achievements are exceptionally noteworthy and distinctive in his/her profession.
"It is a privilege to honor Mr. Brandes with the Achievement in a Chosen Profession Award. His achievements have not only created extraordinary value for his clients but for the value of a Bucknell diploma," said Bucknell Alumni Award co-chair Michael Kraus '94.
Inspired by the sage advice of Benjamin Graham, who is widely considered the father of value investing, Mr. Brandes founded Brandes Investment Partners in 1974. He currently serves as the firm's Chairman. He is also a member of the firm's Investment Oversight Committee, which is responsible for monitoring the firm's investment processes and activities.

Mr. Brandes has published two books, including his most recent work, Brandes on Value: The Independent Investor, which coincided with the firm's 40th anniversary in November 2014. The book explores Mr. Brandes' background, as well as how he met the father of value investing and became a convert of his investment philosophy.
Mr. Brandes majored in economics at Bucknell and entered a graduate studies program at San Diego State University before launching his career in financial services at a stockbroker firm in La Jolla, California, where he met his mentor, Mr. Graham.

Every reunion weekend, the Bucknell University Alumni Association Board of Directors honors distinguished alumni in four categories; Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession, Loyalty to Bucknell, Service to Humanity and Young Alumni (15 years out or less). Award recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by a committee including current and past members of the Alumni Board, Club Presidents, past award recipients and Development and Alumni Relations. The 2015 honorees personify "the best of the best" having served and enhanced Bucknell University in brand and mission since their respective graduations.
