Chelsea's Law Power to Bring Our Community Together, 5 Years Later
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Five years ago, California Assembly Bill 1844, commonly referred to as Chelsea's Law, was unanimously passed and enacted. With the support from the King family and thousands of Changemakers, former State Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher introduced groundbreaking legislation to protect California's children. Chelsea's Law is an important reminder that we all must come together to combat sexual violence against children.
"Five years ago we showed that with bold leadership, big ideas, broad coalitions, and collective community and political will, it is possible to deliver remarkable results," said Nathan Fletcher former assemblyman and author of Chelsea's law.
This evening, in honor of this milestone anniversary, the world renowned Golden Door Resort will host a fundraising dinner to benefit Chelsea's Light and the Palomar Health's Forensic Health Services, the vital North County service for foster children, child and adult victims of abuse and sexual assault. The Golden Door will underwrite 100% of the costs of this the farm-to-table dinner held under the stars at the iconic property.

Also to commemorate this anniversary, Chelsea's Light is launching an effort focused on making our children a national priority. This week, as a part of the "Stronger Together" campaign, individuals will take to social media to raise awareness about Child Sexual Assault (CSA) using the hashtag #StrongerTogether.
"A cultural awakening is under way. Awareness and action are overcoming the darkness of child sexual assaults," said Brent King, founder of Chelsea's Light Foundation.
Our children look to adults in the communities they call home to help keep them safe. This week we celebrate the community that continues to respond to Chelsea King's rape and murder by using their voice for justice. They remind us that together we are stronger when it comes to safeguarding our nation's youth.
