CHET Promotion Challenges Connecticut Children and Families to 'Dive into Saving for College'
Summer Library Promotion Also Encourages Students to Read
HARTFORD, Conn., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- CHET, Connecticut’s 529 College Saving Program, partnering with the Connecticut State Library, has launched the 2010 summer library promotion -- “Dive into Saving for College.” This summer, just reading a book or attending a library event could pay off, literally. The objective of the “Dive into Saving for College” promotion is to enhance the Connecticut State Library’s summer reading promotion “Make a Splash @ Your Library: READ” by providing an avenue through which families can learn about the importance of a college education and how CHET can help Connecticut students reach their future higher education goals. To participate in the “Dive into Saving for College” promotion, Connecticut students of any age through grade eight (8) during the 2010–2011 school year can go to their local library and fill out an official entry form.
“We are pleased that we will once again partner with the Connecticut State Library to bring the ‘Dive into Saving for College’ Promotion to Connecticut students and families,” said Connecticut State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier. “Reading is an important skill and a critical factor in giving every child a chance to succeed throughout their lives. In addition to encouraging children to read during the summer, the ‘Dive into Saving for College’ promotion will help reinforce to parents and guardians the importance of saving early for their child’s future education. Particularly during today’s market conditions, continuing or beginning to invest in a child’s future and being a patient investor over the long term can assist in meeting future college expenses.”
Last year’s promotion, “Get Creative @ Saving for College,” garnered more than 2,700 entries from across Connecticut and awarded $1,000 checks to each of the promotion’s three winners. Due to the great success of the 2009 promotion, additional prizes have been added to the 2010 “Dive into Saving for College” promotion to motivate even more Connecticut students to read during summer months.
During one month of the promotion $50 gift cards to Barnes & Noble will be awarded to four winning families across the state, and during a second month $50 Borders gift cards will be presented to four additional winning families across Connecticut. At the conclusion of the promotion in August, four winning names will be drawn from all students participating and each student will be presented a $1,000 check. Additionally, checks for $500 will be awarded to the libraries from which the winning entries were chosen. Winners will be recognized at a special event to be held in September at the Connecticut State Library.
The promotion runs through August 20, 2010. Entries must be received by August 27, 2010. For more information, visit www.aboutchet.com/library. All entries submitted during the promotion will be eligible for the grand prize drawing.
For official rules, detailed prize descriptions and more information, parents and guardians are asked to visit www.aboutchet.com/library, email [email protected] or call (860) 305-4605. The “Dive into Saving for College” promotion is sponsored by the State of Connecticut Treasurer's Office, CHET, TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc., and the Connecticut State Library.
