In March 2016, data from the NBS showed that China's total output of Li-ion battery in 2015 increased by 3.13% YoY, indicating a slowdown in the output growth rate. However, many industry insiders believed that it was not the growth rate of output but the growth rate of battery capacity that could reflect the real situation of Li-ion battery industry.

In 2015, thanks to the explosive increase of alternative energy vehicles, Chinese listed companies have gained huge profit from their power Li-ion battery business. However, after the rapid capacity expansion in 2015, enterprises with competitive advantages in product quality are more likely to be winners in 2016.

In 2016, some Chinese enterprises, such as Cangzhou Mingzhu, SSTCL, and Victory Precision, increased their investments into the production of separators. This is significant for accelerating the domestic production of wet-process separators to substitute imports.

In Feb.-March 2016, some listed Li-ion battery companies in China have expedited their expansions into upstream and downstream industries, aiming to cut the cost of raw materials and to control risks.

In March 2016, CAPCHEM announced that its revenue has witnessed a significant YoY growth, which was mainly attributed to the development of its Li-ion battery chemicals business.

In March, 2016, Easpring released its 2015 financial report. It showed that the company's revenue and net profit underwent a substantial YoY growth, which was mainly attributed to the great increase in sales volume of cathode material. Not only that, this growth, in fact is expected to persist through 2016 as well.

On 10 March, 2016, Soundon New Energy signed the Protocol of the Cooperation Framework on Power Li-ion Battery Project for Alternative Energy Vehicles with Guohong Automobile on the cooperation on building an assembly system of 50,000 power Li-ion battery packs for alternative energy vehicles. Prior to this, Soundon New Energy has cooperated with Zotye Holding Group (Zotye Auto), Shaanxi Tongjia Automobile Co., Ltd., and Changsha Meihua Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. successively to develop its business. It is expected that Soundon New Energy's effort will drive forward the Li-ion battery industry in Hunan Province or even nationwide.

Qinghai Lithium solved the technical difficulties of extracting lithium from salt lake brine of high Mg/Li ratio, adopting the pioneering technology of synthesizing lithium carbonate by ion-selective migration.

In early March 2016, the quotation price of battery grade lithium carbonate in China increased by USD152.94/t (RMB1,000/t), indicating that the rise in price will continue.

In March 2016, Chinese government said that the domestic output and sale volume of EV are supposed to grow by 100% YoY this year. This will definitely drive up the demand for power Li-ion battery and accelerate the structure adjustment in Chinese Li-ion battery industry.
