China Maritime Silk Road Antiques Photo Exhibition on view at United Nations Headquarters from December 15th to 19th, 2014
NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The simple but solemn opening ceremony of the "China Maritime Silk Road Antiques Photo Exhibition" takes place today, December 15th, 2014, on the first floor of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. It will be open to the public from Monday 4pm, December 15th to Friday, December 19th, 2014.
The holding of the China Maritime Silk Road Antiques Photo Exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters is a key step in carrying out the strategic implementation of the "One Belt and One Road" strategy envisaged by the Chinese central government and the specific actions on accelerating the building of both the mechanisms and infrastructure that serve as the backbone of the "One Belt and One Road" strategy envisaged by General Secretary Xi Jinping. Historically, the Maritime Silk Road also served as a "Road of Peace" that connected the ancient civilizations of both the East and the West by sea and served as a platform for the exchanges of both art and culture on the basis of trade and commerce. With its far-reaching and extensive content, the Maritime Silk Road has facilitated and influenced tremendously the process of world civilizations. In the historical development of the Maritime Silk Road, the province of Fujian, as the birthplace of the concept, has been playing a very important role. This Exhibition highlights the history of Fujian's historical status as the starting point of the famous road. The Exhibition itself is also an important carrier of Fujian's cultural brand whose role is to promote the historical significance of the road. At the same time, this Exhibition seeks to spread the friendly voices of the Chinese people to the world in order to strengthen the cultural interactions and exchanges between China and the world.
The China Maritime Silk Road Antiques Photo Exhibition is derived from "Sailing of the Silk Road – The Joint Exhibition of the Maritime Silk Road Antiques by Seven Provinces in China", and carefully produced for viewers in the United States. The joint exhibition, a project three years in the planning by the Fujian Museum under the guidance of the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, demonstrates the unique charm of its cultural relics with a blend of heritage by bringing together more than 300 fine antiques pieces from Chinese museums in seven coastal provinces. The joint exhibition reflects the spirit of the ancient Maritime Silk Road in the sense of "solidarity and mutual trust," "tolerance and mutual learning," "cooperation and win-win," and "equality." The Photo Exhibition taking place at United Nations Headquarters in New York City will present 200 carefully selected artifacts that had been made into plates, including porcelain, silk, pottery, gold and silver, spices, bronzes, ancient coins, glassware, and ancient ornaments, among other objets d'art. The Photo Exhibition will not only demonstrate the former prosperity of China's trade and commerce along the Maritime Silk Road, it will also provide a clear picture as to the significance of the important role played by traditional Chinese culture in its facilitation and promotion of both economic and cultural exchanges between nations of the world. The Photo Exhibition also aims to offer a rich feast of cultural pleasure for the American public.
Concurrent to and in conjunction with the Exhibition, the 2014 International Symposium on the Maritime Silk Road, organized by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and co-organized by the Fujian Museum and the U.S.-based ICN Television Network, will take place on Tuesday, December 16th, 2014 at Columbia University in the City of New York. The Symposium will invite both Chinese and American experts and scholars to engage in discussions and exchanges on the subject of initiating an in-depth study of and establishing the cultural sharing platform around the Maritime Silk Road as well as promote and bring to a new level the inheritance, protection, framework, and development of the cultural heritage of the Maritime Silk Road.
The Exhibition, organized by the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations and the Fujian Provincial People's Government and jointly sponsored by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Province, and the Fujian Museum; and co-organized by the Nanjing Museum, the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, the Shandong Provincial Museum, the Guangdong Provincial Museum, the Museum of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Hainan Museum, and U.S.-based ICN Television Network.
