Christmas Comes Early to 100 Los Angeles Unified School District Teachers Receiving $100 Vanilla Visa® Gift Cards
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanilla Visa, the nation's most popular network-branded gift card, announced today that it is giving the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) 100 Vanilla Visa Gift Cards valued at $100 each for select teachers to use as needed.
According to the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA), 92 percent of teachers spend their personal money on school supplies, and the average amount spent in 2009 was $170 per year.
The gift cards were given today to teachers from Marshall High School and Fremont High School. Both campuses operate on a year-round calendar and just closed for the winter break. Teachers at Marshall High School were selected because standardized test scores there rose by double digits this year. Teachers at Fremont High School were selected because students showed marked improvement in test scores during this year's first periodic assessment, often a strong indicator of how they will perform on the annual California Standards Tests (CST).
"On behalf of LAUSD, we applaud this very welcome support of teachers in the nation's second largest public school district," a District spokesperson said.
"Teachers have one of the toughest, yet most important, jobs in America," said Andrew McCaskill, a Vanilla Visa spokesperson. "With Christmas and the new school term approaching, the Vanilla Visa team wanted to say a big 'thank you' to some of Los Angeles Unified's educators."
