NEW YORK, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CipherHealth, a six-year old healthcare technology company in New York City, highlights its mission to help hospitals and health systems deliver patient-centered care by awarding its first annual Outstanding Patient Care Award to recognize exceptional nurses and nursing teams across the nation. The award was launched in honor of National Nurses Week, an annual celebration of nurses around Florence Nightingale's birthday. The winners include one nurse and two nursing teams who consistently demonstrate their commitment to patient safety, advocacy, and empowerment through compassionate patient care.
The majority of nominations, including the three chosen for the award, came from hospital leaders and managers, demonstrating the strong link between team empowerment and high-quality patient care. Because being at the forefront of care delivery can be extremely demanding and stressful, equipping leadership with different means to recognize their staff is essential.
One of the winning teams was the Oncology Nurse Team at Centegra Sage Cancer Center, led by Amy Moerschbaecher. Since starting the program in 2008, Amy has maintained a 0% turnover rate for her team. Jill Benedeck, clinical nurse manager at Centegra Sage Cancer Center, reacted to her team's nomination from their leader, "It is amazing to have a director who empowers us the way that she does. Amy allows us to enrich our own experiences through research, and provides us with constant encouragement to help us improve the experiences of our patients."
Another award recipient, the Sentara Leigh Nurse Manager Team, was also nominated by its team leader, Jennifer Kreiser, Vice President Patient Care Services. When asked what it takes to tirelessly and consistently provide top-notch patient care, Kreiser described the team's "treat everyone like family" culture. "It is not enough for leaders to be passionate about patient care. It takes leaders that empower frontline staff - from floor nurses to housekeepers - to provide that top-quality care to every patient," said Kreiser.
These values are reflected by the outstanding care these teams are providing and the attention they give to each patient. Preet Singh, Director of the Medical Surgical & ICU at PeaceHealth United General Medical Center said of awardee nurse team leader, Holly Bramlitt, "For Holly, patient care is about the people first - their whole being, life, lifestyle, and life circumstances. This is key to the concept of patient- and family-centered care, and should not be sacrificed regardless of the pace and demands of today's healthcare system."
CipherHealth Co-Founder, Alex Hejnosz said of the award, "As a technology company, we are deeply committed to the development of solutions that help care providers improve the quality of patient care. This award helps recognize those that go above and beyond to deliver that care everyday."
An interdisciplinary committee, made up of advisors, developers, and executive team members, reviewed the nominations. The committee selected winners who met the award's criteria.
