NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Joel Smernoff has been named Chief Operating Officer of publishing technology pioneer CITIA. "Joel knows what it takes to get from brainstorm to done at web speed," said CITIA Founder and CEO Linda Holliday. "He's got the kind of digital DNA that thrives in our forward-thinking family."

Smernoff will manage the company's product, design, editorial, marketing, and technology teams. With a digital operations background that includes senior positions at Netscape and AOL, Smernoff boosts the company's ability to deliver world-class media experiences. High-profile releases coming in 2013 will feature a marquee roster of media partners including Penguin, HarperCollins, and a soon-to-be announced major musical artist.

"What a thrill to join a team that's reinventing how media gets made and how it moves around," said Smernoff. "CITIA's big bet — that consumers want digital content experiences that are as seamless as their online habits — is tremendously exciting."

Smernoff brings more than two decades of operations and strategic expertise, much of it with fast-growing digital outfits. He ran Paltalk (as president and COO) and MarketSharing (as CEO). At Netscape he served as senior manager on the Netbusiness team and he helped launch AOL for Small Business. Smernoff graduated from the University of Michigan with both a BSE in Naval Architecture and an MBA in Finance.
