City Chatter Launches First App To Combine Social Discovery and Group Chat
City Chatter Says Stop Reading about Your High School Friend's Dog and Talk to the People Around You - in Real-time
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- City Chatter today announced the launch of its mobile social network, which combines social discovery and real-time chat to make meeting people less 1989. The hyper-local app lets you discover other City Chatter members in your local coffee shop, or in your neighborhood, without saying a word. Simply sign in and browse profiles of other City Chatter members in their same location, perfect for everything from business meetings to concerts.
Available on the iPhone®, iPod touch® and coming soon to Android®, City Chatter is the first app that combines social discovery, real-time group chat, and private chat to ignite one-on-one relationships. With the City Chatter, you can:
- Check into City Chatter at the bar, business convention, or the neighborhood where you're hanging out. Users can instantly see who else is on the network looking to chat.
- Join group chats to learn who is talking about what and throw in your two cents by responding publicly to either the group or individual chatters via @reply.
- Use one-on-one chat to test the waters before (gulp) walking across the room to introduce yourself the old-fashioned way... or not.
"I instant message or text people sitting right next to me all the time. I would rather chat with people on my phone before I talk to them in person, if I ever even talk to them in person. I wanted to create that Facebook/LinkedIn/IM experience in real-time, with the people who are around me now. The current social discovery apps don't do it for me, because I want to do what's natural... talk to people," said City Chatter founder Phil Shpilberg, who has led multiple successful entertainment and technology launches for companies including major game publisher 2K Games.
To showcase its app, City Chatter is sponsoring a 'Neighborhood Takeover' in Manhattan's Chelsea and New Jersey's Hoboken communities in late July that will include City Chatter decals identifying key neighborhood establishments as City Chatter Hotspots, coffee carts with City Chatter-branded cups, and free drinks at select bars for downloading the City Chatter app on the spot. "You'll see me there, but please don't just come over and talk to me. That will be awkward. Chatter me up first," says Phil Shpilberg.
City Chatter is available immediately as a free download (www.citychatter.com/download)
from the iTunes App Store(SM) , and can be used anywhere in the country.
