HAWTHORNE, Calif., April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Hawthorne is one of the first cities in California to launch a new financial analysis platform powered by OpenGov.com that provides residents, businesses, and city staff unprecedented instant access to the city's budget information. The powerful visualization software transforms volumes of raw financial data into an interactive, digital format, enabling better analysis and understanding of the city's budget and making it easy for everyone to see how taxpayer money is collected and spent. The platform is live and may be accessed at http://www.cityofhawthorne.org/city-budget-documents/.
The OpenGov platform displays 4 years of government spending and revenue detail in a user-friendly portal. Users can view historical revenue and expenditure trends over time and explore multiple views of budget data, including by fund, department, expense or revenue type. For example, visitors to the platform may answer frequently asked questions such as "what did the city spend on travel, conferences, and meetings over the past three years, two year, or last year?"
Rickey Manbahal, Hawthorne's Finance Director, led the initiative to make the city's finances more transparent and understandable.
"The city is utilizing valuable resources to ensure residents are constantly engaged and can access real time financial data," noted Rickey Manbahal.
"By making its budget data easily accessible to residents and staff in an intuitive, digital format, the city of Hawthorne is demonstrating its commitment to efficient, data-driven and transparent government," commented Zachary Bookman, CEO and co-founder of OpenGov.
With today's release, the City of Hawthorne joins a growing list of over 275 leading cities, counties, state agencies, school systems, and special districts across the country that leverage OpenGov technology.
