Civil Rights Leader Blasts Obama for Infringing on 2nd Amendment, While Leaving His Hometown A War Zone

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Barely a month after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., President Barack Obama used children as a backdrop to make sweeping gun proposals and violate the privacy of law-abiding Americans. Obama's executive orders included a federal background check system requiring states to share the private medical records of their residents with the feds and gives doctors the "authority" to inquire and report patients with guns if they show signs of mental illnesses under Obamacare. "President Obama's orders will restrict 2^nd Amendment rights and do nothing to stop mass shootings. Barack Obama is exploiting the Sandy Hook shooting to emotionalize the public and pressure Congress to act hastily to pass oppressive gun laws. The president resisted having armed guards in schools, even though his kids are protected by armed Secret Service.

"If stricter gun control laws are the answer, why aren't they working in Chicago? Illinois has the strictest gun laws in the country. Despite all the laws, the president's hometown is a war zone with over 500 murders in 2012. While some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gunfire in Chicago during that same time. Chicago has more young homicide victims every month than died in Newtown. In the school year that ended in June, 319 Chicago public school students were shot, 24 of them fatally.

"According to police, most of these shootings were committed using illegally acquired guns. Gun control policies don't work and they never will because they disarm law-abiding citizens while keeping criminals armed. Obama failed to address the root cause of mass shootings, which in many cases is related to psychotropic medications and the anger many young people feel as a result of broken families and absent fathers. This is a cynical attempt by this president to use a tragedy to advance his left-wing agenda and trample on the rights of the people. The American public should not fall for this con."
