C.J. Baricevic Launches Campaign to Fight for the People of 12th Congressional District
BELLEVILLE, Ill., July 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stating "the recent vote in Congress for a trade deal that's great for Wall Street, but does not protect workers is an example of why we need to change Washington —and why I am running for Congress," local labor attorney C. J. Baricevic (Bar-civic) today formally launched his campaign for Congress against Incumbent Mike Bost at events in Madison and Franklin Counties.
Baricevic was the first Democrat to set up an exploratory committee to run against Bost. Baricevic was raised in Fairview Heights, has worked out of Local 439 Pipefitters at Granite Steel, worked his way through Southern Illinois University, is a labor attorney in the Belleville law firm of Chatham and Baricevic, and has served as an appointed public defender.
"I will be a Congressman who will fight for working families—who clock in—work hard—and need a Congressman that works for them. For working families to have opportunity, we need to make Washington work—we need to put families back to work—and we need to make America the place where we make things again. Too many young people leave our area because of a lack of jobs—we need to change that," said Baricevic.
"I am a proud independent Southern Illinois Democrat---those who I will answer to will be the hard working people of this district. The answers to the problems hurting hard working families aren't Republican or Democratic—but common sense answers," said Baricevic.
Baricevic said there would be clear differences in the race.
"Mike Bost has put the interests of his own party over the interests of our hard-working families. Unlike Mike Bost, I will oppose trade deals that send jobs abroad, and I will fight to reduce income inequality. I will support tax policies to keep manufacturing jobs in Southern Illinois, fight for continued investment in Southern Illinois University, push for greater college financial aid for middle-class families, protect Social Security, support our farmers, oppose turning Medicare into a voucher program, and be a strong advocate for Illinois coal and ethanol," said Baricevic.
"Mike Bost, who claims to be a fiscal conservative, has irresponsibly spent more money on taxpayer financed self-promoting franked mail than other member of Congress. This district needs a Congressman who'll fight for it—not a Congressman focused on promoting himself," said Baricevic.
