Classic Car Owners Receive Historic Pricing at Vintage-Themed Gas Station on Michigan's Woodward Avenue
Hagerty Classic Car Magazine Celebrates Collector Car Appreciation Day Today
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., July 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate National Collector Car Appreciation Day, Hagerty Classic Car Magazine transformed a gas station on Michigan's famous Woodward Avenue into a full service station from the past, complete with classic gas prices. Hagerty brought back the full-service station experience from America's golden automotive era, serving over 200 classic cars more than 1,400 gallons of gas.
"National Collector Car Appreciation Day is a great way for us to celebrate our belief that 'Life's Better in a Classic,'' said McKeel Hagerty, Executive Publisher of Hagerty Classic Car Magazine and CEO of Hagerty. "We shared a very special experience with classic car owners by recreating the moment in time when their classic cars were new. It's a nice way to recognize owners for their appreciation and for carrying on the tradition of automotive history."
In addition to transforming the Mobil station on historic Woodward Avenue, fans across the country are able to enter to win free gas cards by sharing their collector car stories on Hagerty's website: Hagerty.com/yourstories. The stories that receive the most likes and comments on Facebook will receive one of 100 gas gift cards.
"As a classic car enthusiast, I appreciate the event," said Bob Kitner, owner of a 1971 Chevrolet Corvette, "I really appreciate the gas prices - $0.36 a gallon is great. It's also a great opportunity to see all of the other classics and enjoy the day. I'm going to stay and check out all the great cars that are here!"
This is the fifth annual National Collector Car Appreciation Day, which is celebrated around the country with classic car rallies and events. The day was created to bring awareness to the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation's appreciation for the automobile's unique historical place in our culture.
