TORONTO, July 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Clearview Vision Institute, a premium vision care facility specializing in refractive eye procedures and treatments, is delighted to announce that it will be the first clinic in Canada to offer ReLEx SMILE technology to patients.
Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is the only minimally invasive, flapless procedure in laser vision correction. While its laser vision correction predecessors, LASIK and PRK, both rely on the creation of a corneal flap, ReLEx SMILE creates a micro incision on the corneal surface, using a femtosecond laser, to remove stromal tissue and correct the patient's vision. This latest advancement in laser vision correction repairs vision problems such as short sightedness or astigmatism, and is suitable for patients with thin corneas, dry eyes or contact lens intolerance.
"We are the first clinic in Canada to offer this innovative technology. We think it's important for us to invest in this technology, as we believe it is the next advancement in laser vision correction. It provides a greater safety margin, reduces dryness, provides biomedical stability, and has all of the benefits of LASIK without the flap. We pride ourselves on being leaders in providing innovative solutions to patients, and believe this is the next step in doing so," said Dr. Christoph Kranemann, Medical Director of ClearviewVision Institute.
ReLEx SMILE has successfully been performed on over 100,000 eyes worldwide, and the procedure only takes approximately 28 seconds. Clearview Vision Institute is currently the only clinic Canada-wide offering ReLEx SMILE technology to patients.
