CLYLP And The Coca-Cola Foundation Announce 35th Anniversary Scholarship Partnership For 'First Generation' Chicano/Latino College Students
SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP), a statewide, community-based organization celebrating 35 years of enhancing and building the leadership potential of California's Chicano/Latino youth, is announcing a partnership this summer with Coca-Cola, to offer thousands of dollars in scholarships to CLYLP student alumni who are the first generation in their family to attend a college or university.
In honor of CLYLP's 35th anniversary in 2017, The Coca-Cola Foundation is awarding a $38,000 grant to the statewide Chicano/Latino youth organization to fund 10 undergraduate scholarships at $3500 each. The "CLYLP/Coca-Cola FirstGen'' scholarships will be presented to eligible alumni of the various CLYLP high school conferences and institutes who are the first in their family to currently be enrolled - or planning to enroll - in a two- or four-year undergraduate college or university. The remaining funds from the grant will be used to support the travel expenses for the 10 scholarship awardees to receive their scholarships in-person at a CLYLP 35th Anniversary Banquet in Sacramento, in July, 2017.

Since 1993, The Coca-Cola Foundation has awarded more than $49MM in Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarships to more than 4,000 students on more than 540 U.S. campuses. By creating of "CLYLP/Coca-Cola FirstGen" scholarship awards, The Coca-Cola Foundation will be helping further one of CLYLP's key missions: Providing resources and opportunities for California's Chicano/Latino youth.

The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project, Inc. (CLYLP) was founded in 1982 with the primary purpose of preparing students to participate in California's economic, social and political development. CLYLP is guided by the overall theme "California's Future Leaders," and its programs emphasize the importance of culture, community, college and careers. More than 5,000 students have gone through CLYLP programs and more than 90% of these have gone on to attend college. Many CLYLP alumni go on to become successful leaders in both the public and private sector.
