CHICAGO, April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by Metropolis Strategies:

Sen. Kwame Raoul, the Vice-Chairperson of the Senate Criminal Law Committee, will present promising solutions to the state's overcrowded prisons at an education forum on Friday morning.

Members of the news media are welcome to cover the forum, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 20, at Northwestern University School of Law, 350 E. Superior St., 1st floor, Chicago.

Sen. Raoul, a former prosecutor and a champion of criminal justice reforms, will be the featured speaker.  Other policy experts and researchers on the program include:

  • Gino DiVito, a former justice of the Illinois Appellate Court and current Chairman of the Illinois Sentencing Policy Advisory Council.
  • John Maki, Executive Director of the prison watchdog John Howard Association;
  • Gladyse E. Taylor, Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections; and
  • Diane Williams, President and CEO of Safer Foundation, a non-profit working to reduce recidivism
